Members of the Interfaith Committee
for Peace in the Holy Land, comprising the
first Christian-Jewish-Moslem Friendship
Mission ever to go to the Middle- East, are
shown at a luncheon in Jerusalem where
they view a model of the Pillar of Peace
project, a monument to be erected on the
shores of the Sea of Galilee near its north-
ern, juncture with the Jordan River. Seat-
ed, left to right, are Dr. Ibrahim Chowdry,
secretary of the Islamic Council of New
York; Dr. Samuel Z. Kahana, of the Israeli
Ministry of Religion; Dr. Sarah E. Dickson,
first woman elder of the Presbyterian
Church; Dr. Richard E. Evans, leader of
the mission and chairman of the interfaith
committee; and Dr. Harry Cohen, Jewish
physician of New York. -Standing at the
left, along with other Israeli government
representatives, is Julius Salpeter, Israeli
builder and engineer and chairman of the
Pillar of Peace project for Israel. The pro-
ject, along with accompanying interfaith,
educational and medical facilities, is de-
signed to further Christian-Jewish-Mos-
lem friendships.
GENEVA—A spokesman for
the International Red Cross
denied Tuesday reports that
the organization's special envoy
to the Middle East was due to
return to Geneva to present a
full report on his efforts in be-
half of_: the six-man crew of the
Israel fishing trawler, the
Doron, detained by Egypt since
Sept. 25.
The spokesman said the Red
Cross envoy was still negotiat-
ing with Egyptian authorities
and was not expected to re-
turn to Geneva "for the time
being."
It was learned that the Red
Cross has little hope of being
allowed to visit the six fisher-
men and that it was not con-
sidering serious action to press
Egypt to comply with the Gen-
eva Convention governing the
detention of the crew and the
70-ton trawler.
It was also learned that the
Red Cross hopes there will be
a prompt release of the crew
to save the international agency
from its present "face-losing en-
terprise."
