Mrs. Baruch I. The League, which contains over 675 Con- Treiger servative women's groups in the U.S. and Canada, is headed by Mrs. Louis Sussman. The two :day Institute will be held at the Ahavas Achim Syna- Rudd to Bring New York .Opera Here, -Nov. 19-27 Julius Rudel, newly appointed general director of the New York City Opera Co., will ap- pear in Detroit soon, conduct- ing the company in a week of presentations at the Masonic Temple. The New York City Opera will perform here from Nov. 19 to 27. Rudel's con- ducting back- ground in- cludes direct- ing several concerts of the New York P h ilharmonic Orchestra a t New York's Lewisohn Sta- dium and at Rudel Chicago's Grant Park. His first experience in conducting pro- fessionally was in Nov., 1944, when he was 23. He directed Strauss' "Gypsy Baron" at the New York City Center. H i s administrative b a c k- ground was augmented from 1945 to 1952, when as director of the Third Street Music _ School Settlement, he reorga- nized the institution, made its facilities available to returning veterans, and organized opera and language departments. He brought the school's enroll- ments to an all-time record of 1,150 students and 135 teachers. He spent five summers, from 1952 to 1956, conducting musi- cals in summer stock. In 1954, when the New York City Light Opera Company was formed, he conducted revivals of "Ca- rousel", "Finian's Rainbow7, "Carmen Jones" and "Briga- doon". In 1956 he was invited to conduct opera and the German- translated version of "Kiss Me Kate" in his native Vienna. An honor graduate of the University of Washington, Mrs. Treiger held a graduate fellow- ship at the New York School of Social Work and the Graduate School of Jewish Social Work. She has served on staffs of va- rious leading casework agencies in the country. Her work with her husband, the late Rabbi Baruch I. Treiger, supplemented MRS.
