by the Evergreen Jewish Yonth
Group will be held at 7 p.m.,
Sunday, at 19911 Heyden. The
site of the sukkah is the backyard
of youth group member Judy

"The play's the thing," and so
it is at Central as centennial
senior 'Lites try out for the
January '58 senior play, "Dude
Ranch," a western musical writ-
ten by James Reach. William Ed-
wards will again be the play's
director, with Mrs. Ruth Justice
as musical assistant. The cast is
soon- to be announced.
Junior Achievers staged their
annual assembly in Central's
auditorium this year under the
supervision of Stanley Maxson,
new vocational department head.
The achievement staff of mech-
anics and experts explained to

their program which reconvened

All 'Lites are asked to join in
the annual clothing drive Oct. 7
to 18, in assiting needy families
in the Detroit area.

The state 'requirement for a
certain number of teaching days
in each semester has made it
necessary for Superintendant of
Schools, Dr. Samuel Brownell to
equalize the •'57, '58 semesters
giving the first term 21 weeks
and the second 19. The necessity
for a 21 week fill term is due
to a larger number of holidays
than occur in the spring. The -
change will take effect in all
Detroit public schools this semes-
ter.

Detroit Attorney Henry Rott-
man will speak on "Justice" at
a meeting of the Adas Shalom
Young IVIariied Couples Club at
8:30 p.m., Oct. 23, in the syna-
gogue board room.
Prospective members are in-
vited to attend the program,
which is being planned by the
Dan Knoppers, Iry Barits and
Sandy Pavlons. A social hour
will conclude the evening.
A social event is planned for
Oct. 26, when members meet in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al
Goldstein, 24240 Oneida, Oak
Park, for a Hallowe'en masquer-
ade party.
Games and dancing are
planned, prizes will be awarded
and there will be refreshments
served. Assisting the Goldsteins,
who are chairmen for the eve-
ning, are the Bernard Biases,
Arnold Flacks and Dan Knop-
pers.

With the start of senior elec-
tions last Wednesday, the class
of January '58 began its final
phase of school at Mumford.
Heading the race for class offi-
cers are the presidential candi-
dates, Margot La Ban and Barry
Samuels.
Starting on Oct. 16 and lasting
through Oct. 18, Mumfordites
will participate in the clothing
drive. Grades will oppose each
other in a bid for honors to be
given to the one donating the
most clothes.
Committees have been selected
for "Lo and Behold," this semes-
ter's school play to be presented
on Nov. 21 and 22. Chairing these
committees are Linda Granet and
Renee de Schein, tickets; Linda
Mitteldorf and Julie Nichamin,
props; Carole Lewis and Sue
Stertner, make-up; Diane Bloom-
berg and Nancy Cogan; costumes;
and Aaron Goren. and Barbara
Shapiro, sound effects.
Plans for freshman orientation
are beginning to unfold and take
shape. Members of the Student
Council have been 'acquainting
the freshmen with Mumford's ac-
tivities through two weekly peri-
ods. The program includes fa-
miliarizing the freshmen with
the different -clubs and sports
programs.
On the sports scene, our Mus-
tangs downed Northern and
Northeastern to win their first
two games. Today, Mumford en-
counters Cooley on home ground.
The girls' golf team has ended
its '57 season undefeated. Mem-
bers of the squad were Phyllis
Berman, Rosalind Epstein, Bar-
bara Kukes, Marsha Moskowitz,
Wendy Newman, Glenda Sam-
uels, Sue Soloman and Linda
Tann.
Councilettes will hold its first
business meeting of the year this
Sunday. At this time Elaine Port-
nei will speak on her recent trip
to Germany.

Student-Parent Panel

Muniford Parents Club will
meet at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the
school auditorium.
A panel consisting of parents
and students will discuss ways
of achieving a better relation-
ship. Answers to be ascertained
are "How can parents and stu-
dents work together for mutual
benefits? What should the par-
ents do for the students and the
school? What can we expect
from the student body?"
Aaron Krasner, professor of
group work, Wayne State Uni-
versity, will be moderator. Stu-
dents participating on the panel
will be Mike Friedman, Carol
Lewis and Gale Burkow. Repre-
