In a memorandum submitted
to the U.S. Secretary of Corn-

eague of Bnai Brith, the
agencies stressed that the Fed-
eral government, under the Con-
stitution, may not aid religious
groups or "take cognizance. of
religious affiliations of its citi-
zens." -

The opening social of the sea-
son for the Temple Israel Young
Marrieds Group will be a caba-
ret dance and midnight supper.
The program, to feature music
by the counts, a catered supper
and prizes, will be held at 8:30
p.m., Oct. 6, in the Leon Frain
Hall of Temple Israel, and is
open to members and their
guests.
Chairmen of the event are the

FRIENDS AND ADMIRERS of
Mina Bargman, member of the
executive committee of the Jew-
ish Community Council, who was
this year's recipient of the St.
Cyprian's Episcopal award for
outstanding public service, were
regaled and- titillated by a story-
told by the keynoter of the eve-
ning, Rev. Dr. J. H. Jackson,
president of the National Baptist
Convention of the USA . . . Dr.
Jackson was describing the worry
of a wife over' her husband who
had a very serious heart- .condi-
tion and who had won $50,000
in the Irish Sweepstakes . . •
She was afraid that the sudden
news, even though pleasant,
might cause heart failure . .
She asked her minister to ever
so gently inform her ailing hus-
band .. , The minister asked the
husband how he felt, • and -after
being assured that he felt much
better, he inquired how he slept
last night, -to which the answer
was good, too . . . Then the min-
ister very carefully asked, "What
would you do had you won
$50,000?" . .. The ailing gentle-
man retorted that he would give
$5,000 to the minister . • . At this
point the minister died of heart
failure.
