William Scholz, director of the

LONDON, (JTA) — Egyptian
gunboats captured the Israeli
fishing vessel Doron some .30
miles from the Sinai coastal town
of El Arish, it was reported here
frOm Port Said.
A Reuters dispatch said that
the Egyptians had arrested six
Israeli crewmen and charged
them with violating Egyptian ter-
ritorial waters. They were sent to
Cairo for interrogation.
The Israel government, mean-
while asked International Red
Cross headquarters in Geneva to
establish the fate of the vessel
and its crew, and the Foreign
Ministry asked the Israel dele-
gation at the United Nations to
seek UN intervention.
The Israel government also
sought Italy's intervention be-
cause one of the crew was an
Italian. The Red Cross was asked
to send a representative to visit
the fishermen to determine
whether they were receiving the
treatment required by Geneva
conventions and to provide what-
'ever, legal protection might be
needed.
Israel also asked the Red Cross
to, obtain from the fishermen
communications to their Sfamilies
in Israel.
The Foreign Ministry indicated
it had no information on the
fate of the ship or its crew ex-
cept that neither had been re-
turned to Israel. Owners of the
ship said that, on. the basis of
the last radio communication
from the ship, they had no doubt
that the boat was captured out-,-
side Egyptian territorial waters.
Arab newspapers in the Jor-
dan-occupied Old- City of Jerusa-
lem reported that the- fishermen
had been discovered to be "spies"
and that the Doron had been con-
fiscated and sold at auction.
Lurid dispatches to the Arab
press described a "mysterious
