Friday, September 27, 1957—THE DETROIT JEW ISH NEWS-6
PROCLAMATION
On the eve of Rosh-Hashana, our most sacred Yom-Tov, and the
traditional period for serious soul-searching, we call upon Detroit
Jewry to face up to a major responsibility which has unfortunately
not been discharged satisfactorily during the past year. We refer to
our foremOst Jewish educational system; The Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah and its affiliated schools. Over 900 Jewish children re-
ceive the finest pedagogic upbringing in these schools, developing a
generation of solid citizens, who are a credit to the Jewish commu-
nity and to our proud Jewish heritage.
The Yeshivath Beth Yehudah is Detroit's responsibility; ours and
yours. The teaching staff of this noble and sacred institution com-
pleted the School-Year being owed a full eighteen weeks salary.
Can the Yeshivah continue in this manner? Can we say that we
have met our responsibilities under these troubling circumstances?
We call on each and every Jew to whom the Torah and its teachings
are holy, (and which Jew will exclude himself) to come to the assist-
ance of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah by responding generously to their
urgent call.
