TEL AVIV, (JTA) - The
West German-Israel reparations
agreement indirectly improved
Israel-British trade relations,
according to Dr. F. Shinnar,
head of the corporation set up
in Israel to handle all repara-
tions matters.
Addressing the Anglo-Israel
Chamber of Commerce, Dr.
Shinnar noted that Bonn had
set aside 6,300,000 pounds ster-
ling ($17,640,000) annually for
Israeli purchases in the ster-
ling area, chiefly for fuel but
also for other items.
This had spark e d Anglo-
Israel trade, he noted, but re-
cently trade relations had be-
come "static" and looked "very
unpromising" for the future.
Dr. Shinnar reported that Is-
rael had already used 40 per-
cent of the sum Germany had
agreed to pay as reparations,
and had contracted for another
10 percent. This meant that Is-
rael already had taken advan-
tage of half of the equivalent of
$822,000,000 pledged by Bonn.
Singling out Israel's ship pur-
chases under German repara-
tions terms, he said that by 1963
the Israel merchant marine
would have a total displacement
of 600,000 tons. German ship-
building had been a decisive
factor in the establishment of
of Israel's maritime independ-
ence,. Dr. Shinnar insisted.
4th Jewish Merchant
Murdered by Bandits
The community was shocked
to learn of the death on Friday
of Barney Nove, 62 - year - old
grocer at. 7832 Oakland. Nove
died at Receiving Hospital, sev-
en hours after a robber lashed
his skull with a blackjack.
Nove was the fourth Jewish
merchant killed by holdup men
within the last two years.
Stricken in similar brutality
were Sal Gelbart and Morris
Rosen, both tailors, and Charles
W. Fox, a tobacconist.
Other small shopkeepers mur-
dered during the short period
were Noory Jablway and Joseph
Cherry. In all cases, the amount
of money stolen was small. Yet
the attack on the storekeeper
was savage and without warn-
ing.
Funeral rites for Nove were
held Sunday at the Ira Kaufman
Funeral Home. Surviving him
are his wife, Rose, and son,
Hannan; a daughter, Mrs. Hen-
ry Kaplan; a brother, two sis-
ters and a grandchild.
Soviet Scientists Absent

TEL AVIV, (JTA)-No Soviet
scientist has yet arrived to at-
tend the International Confer-
ence on Nuclear Structure be-
ing held at the Weizmann Insti-
tute at Rehovoth. However,
there are researchers present
from Poland, Romania and Yu-
goslavia.
