Mrs. Rebecca Katzin Dies

Mrs. 'Rebecca Katzin, who,
during her 45-year residence in
Detroit was among the most ac-
tive leaders in women's organ-
izations, died Sunday at the age
of 85. She passed away at the
home of her son, Martin, in
Silver Springs, Md., where she
had been making her home for
the past few years.
Surviving her is another son,
Dr. Leon A. Katzin, of the
Virgin Islands, and four grand-
children.
Mrs. Katzin way active in the
Bnai David Sisterhood, Euro-
pean Women's Welfare and in
behalf of a Jewish hospital be-
fore the Sinai Hospital efforts
rnaterialized. -
Funeral services were held
at Kaufman Chapel Wednesday.

Native of -Michigan,
Mrs. Desenberg, Dies

A member of one of Mich-
igan's pioneering Jewish fam-
ilies, Mrs. Mattie V. Desenberg,
died Sept. 5, in Sinai Hospital,
following a heart ailment. She
had just celebrated her 81st
birthday at the hospital on
Labor Day.
Mrs. Desenberg, born Sept.
2, 1876, in Battle Creek, was
the daughter of Benjamin and
Sarah Van Praagh. Her father
was a Battle Creek cigar maker,
one of the first in the area.
From the -time of - her mar-
riage, in 1903, to Julius Desen-
berg, she resided in Lawton,
Mich., and remained there until
his death in 1938, when she
came to Detroit to live with her
son, Ben. She had resided here
at 20180 Stansbury.
She was active here in the
Temple Beth El Sisterhood, and,
during World War II, she was
a member of the Red Cross
sewing group. She also was a
member of The Ginsburg-Rosen-
burg Auxiliary of the Jewish
War Veterans here, and a life
member of the Lawton Chap-
ter, Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Desenberg was the
youngest of five sisters and two
brothers who preceded her in
death. Besides her son and
daughter-in-law, she leaves sev-
eral nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Rita Fisher
Dies in New York

Mrs. Rita Fisher, president of
Reed Dept. Stores, died last
week in New York at the age
of 54. .Mrs. Fisher, who resided
at 18622 Oak Drive in Detroit,
was buried in Cloverhill Park
Cemetery after funeral- - services
in the Ira Kaufman Chapel.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of
the board of directors of the
Jewish Welfare Federation Wo-
men's Division, and of Temple
Israel Sisterhood. She also was
a member of Hadas-sah and the
National Council of Jewish
Women.
Surviving her are her son, Mi-
chael, daughter, Mrs. Edward
Stein, brother and two sisters.
