Questions and Answers:

Is Zionism getting the wrong
kind of publicity? The ques-
tion is justified. For the last
few months, a number of prom-
inent American Zionist leaders
have appeared on television
programs which specialize in
controversial issues . . . We re-

fer to the NIGHT BEAT inter-
views which were run by Mike
Wallace and are now handled
by a fellow named Wingate .. .
In these interviews under the
guise of impartiality Zionist
leaders have been asked ques-
tions about dual loyalty and
whether they are first Ameri-
can, then Jews and thirdly
Zionists in that order . . Al-
though the Zionist spokesmen
answered intelligently and con-
ducted themselves with proper
digni ty the general impression
prevailed that Zionism is a con-
troversial subject which has
split American Jewry . .. From
a public relations point of view
such interviews are bad pub-
licity . . . Zionism has long
ago emerged from its contro-
versial stage ... The establish-
ment of the State of Israel
should have, once for all, elim-
inated controversial aspects for
the fact is that the overwhelm-
ing majority of Jews the world
over 'are pro-Israel and indis-
tinguishable from organized
Zionists except for a few die-
hards of the Council of Juda-
ism . . . It is therefore poor
statesmanship on the part of
Zionist leadership to lend it-
self to such TV programs which
renew and emphasize a poleini-
cal atmosphere around Zion-
ism, an atmosphere which in
fact does not exist . . And in-
cidentally, when we mention
Zionist leadership we do not
mean the leadship of the
American Zionist organization.
