Davison Ave. TO 8-0071 Find Natural Gas in Western Negev Natural gas has been found in Israel, it was revealed in a cable which reported that a fire, started at the gas site in Be'eri by a test drill spark, had been extinguished after burning 24 hours. In the same message it was reported that a new oil well had been brought in at the Heletz Field, 30 miles south of Tel Aviv, and another one in the Brur Field about a mile and- a half south of Heletz. They bring to 21 the number of wells so far in the two fields which have reached production at the rate of about 600,000 bar- rels a year, about six per cent of Israel's total petroleum re-.: quirements. The cable was sent to the Israel Oil Prospectors Corp., Ltd., a private group of Ameri- can investors, who are partners with Lapidoth Israel Petroleum Co., Ltd. in Israel's only produc- ing oil wells. The fire at Be'eri, in the Western Negev about 11 miles south of the Heletz field, was extinguished by an Israel Air Force plane using a high pres- sure spraying apparatus. Flames rose more than 120 feet and could be seen 10 miles away. The Tel-Aviv and Lydda Air- port fire brigades had fought the flames without success. After the fire was extin- guished, the gas flow was capped until further tests can be made of pressure, content and possible commercial utiliza- tion. Leading Figures Organize Danish-lsrael Society COPENHAGEN (JTA)-With some of Denmark's most dis- tinguished men _participating, a meeting held at Copenhagen University voted unanimously to launch a Danish - Israel Friendship Society. As chair- man of the society, the meeting elected former Minister of Edu- cation Fleming Hvidberg, who initiated the call for the for- mation of the society. Among nationally and inter- nationally prominent men chosen for the board of the so- ciety are: Prof. Niels Bohr, Nobel prize winning physicist, prominent for his contributions to nuclear science; Dr. Johan- nes Frandsen, director of the government Health Service; Bishop Fuglsang Damgaard, head of the Evangelical Luth- eran Church, and Prof. Stephan Hurwith, State Comptroller.
