United Hebrew Schools
Starting Thursday, over 3,000
students will begin Hebrew
classes in the 10 branch and
affiliated schools. Already many
of these branches have reached
capacity enrollment.
Bar Mitzvah regulations in
most synagogues now require a
minimum of four years' training
in Hebrew, a UHS spokesman
said. This means that children
now 8 and 9-years-old should
be enrolled to meet these re-
quirements. Bar Mitzvah pre-
paration, he added, is a regular
part of the curriculum, with no
extra fees or charges.
Special classes for girls are
being offered in most
branches. Conducted on a
limited basis, the classes es-
pecially prepare girls for Jew-
ish living in the home.
Nursery sessions are planned
this year only in Oak Park.
Starting on Sept. 10, the classes
meet in both morning and after-
noon session. Since both classes
are now fully enrolled, parents
who wish information on future
registration may call LI 8-4747.
A new Hebrew School-Mid-
rasha building is now under
construction adjoining the
Esther Berman Bldg., 18977
Schaefer. Until completion in
November, the Hebrew high
school and Mittel Shule will
hold classes in the Winship
Public School, Curtis and Mar-
lowe. Classes begin Sept. 8 with
an assembly in the Esther Ber-
man auditorium.
The opening session of the
Midrasha is planned for 8:15
p.m., Sept. 16, in the Berman
auditorium. Regular sessions are
scheduled for 9:30 to 1:30, Sun-
days; 7:15 to 9:15, Mondays and
Wednesdays; and 1 to 3 p.m.,
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Registration also is taking
place for the Sholem Aleichem
School, a UHS affiliate, which
will meet in its new building,
19350 Greenfield. Transporta-
tion is provided by the Hebrew
Schools.
Workmen's Circle School, an-
other UHS affiliate, also is ac
cepting registration for classes
in the Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.,
13226 Lawton, and at 18225 W.
T Mile, near Southfield.
