Mayor Gershon Agron, of Jerusalem, welcomed Detroit
visitors in his office early this month, and said he was heartened
by the message they brought of this community's deep interest in
the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond drives. Shown
with Mayor Agron are Rabbis Benjamin Gorrelick and Jacob
Segal, with their wives. Rabbi Segal brought to Israel a scroll
with the names of hundreds of Detroiters who purchased Israel
Bonds. Rabbis Segal and Gorrelick will make appeals for
Israel Bond drive in their sermons during the Holy Days.

LOS ANGELES. (JTA)—Two
faculty members of UCLA's
Spanish department this week
were seeking contact with Seph-
ardic Jews here in order to re-
cord their language and litera-
ture, which they believe are
those of 15th century Spain.
Drs. Joseph H. Silverman and
Samuel G. Armistead hope to
preserve on tape the speech pat-
terns, folk literature and Jewish
religious songs still used—they,
believe—by descendants of the
Jews expelled from Spain at the
time of Columbus.
The two scholars said they
plan to study and compare the
material obtained from Sephar-
dim with Hispanic literature of
the same period available from
other sources:
