Doctorate for Rabbi Goldman After 9 Years of Scholarship

While he was adjusting to a
new life here, he was given
the spiritual leadership of an-
other synagogue, Cong. Adas
Yeshurun, which he maintained
while keeping his earlier post.
Although Dr. Goldman held
a degree from the University
of Vilna, he started from the
beginning at Wayne, auditing
classes until he was proficient
enough in English to begin
work on his master's degree.
This honor he achieved in
February of 1954.
With no break in his sched-
ule, Dr. Goldman immediately
went about working for his
doctorate, attending c l a s s e s
from five to nine hours a week
and putting in double and
triple that time in studies at
home.
On July 29, Rabbi Goldman
officially became Dr. Goldman,
when he earned a Doctor of
Education degree. His major
was the history and philosophy
of education, and his treatise
was written on "The Jewish
Philosophy of Education."
The year before he earned
his MA, Dr. Goldman became
the first rabbi of newly-organ-
ized Northwest Israel Syna-
gogue. In the last year, the
congregation has become af-
filiated with the Young Israel
movement.
