Harold, in announcing the in- crease, said it was the result of rising costs in Israel, "primarily in wages and in the rehabilita- tion process o _ f the land." Harold and Dr. Israel Wiener, chairman of the JNF board, urged all individuals and organ- izations in the community to continue encouraging tree-plant- ing in Israel. They called the planting pro- gram "'vital to the upbuilding of the land of Israel." The Holy Days' Bond appeals will be conducted on Rosh Hashanah, Sept. 26 and 27; Yom Kippur, Oct. 4 and 5; and Sukkot, Oct. 10 and 11 and Oct. 17 and 17. Stollman is chairman of the High Holy Days Religious Council which-- will supervise these appeals. His co-chairmen are Norman . Allan and Dr. Israel Wiener. The tradition established for Israel Bond appeals has result- ed in enrollment of nearly 100 per cent participation of Detroit synagogues, the co-chairmen re- ported. Stollman and his co- chairmen _issued an appeal in which they declared: "This special drive takes on added importance this year when Israel is faced with the task of integrating into its eco nomy close to 120,000 immi- grants, who are flocking to her shores. High Holiday Services ar Beth Abraham Synagogue Council Supports Civil Rights Bill The Jewish Community Coun- cil has renewed its support for passage of "an effective civil rights bill during this session of Congress." In a statement expressing "real regret" at the Senate's adoption of the jury trial amendment, Samuel J. Rhodes, president of the Council, re- called that the Council has "consistently joined with other Detroit groups 'in seeking to guarantee the rights of all Americans. Rhodes called attention • to the statement issued recently in New York by 16 national agencies urging passage of "even this disappointing ver-; sion in order to insure some form of civil rights legislation at this session of Congress." Among the 16 agencies was the National Community Re- lations Advisory Council, with which the Detroit Jewish Com- munity Council is affiliated. The Council has commended Senator Potter - and Senator McNamara on their work in behalf of civil rights legisla- tion, "with the hope that some means will be found to streng- then the present bill in the Senate-House conference." Bnai David that two main services will be conducted for the High Holy Days this year. Reservations to services in the synagogue building at Elmhurst and 14th and in the new build- ing, which will be completed for the Holy Days on Southfield Rd., north of Mt. Vernon, are now being accepted. A guest rabbi and cantor will alternate with Rabbi Hayim Donin and Cantor Hyman J. Ad- ler, who will, respectively, con- duct the services, deliver the sermons and chant the liturgy. A 20-voice choir is being pre- pared to accompany the cantor in the services.
