Jewish Chaplain Gets Ring and Made Pauline Roth to Wed
Kinge Presto Chapel Air-Conditioned Saginaw Serviceman

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii —
Chaplain Garson Goodman has
just acquired for the Pearl
Harbor Aloha Chapel, Hawaii's
only place of worship for Jew-
ish military personnel, what
many state-side synagogues still
lack — air-conditioning — he
reported to the National Jewish
Welfare Board's Commission on
Jewish Chaplaincy.
It all happened, Chaplain
Goodman says, when a trans-
Pacific telephone call brought
air-cooled breezes to his chapel,
with Mrs. Harry M. Green, act-
ing as intermediary. Mrs. Green,
a member of `Honolulu's Temple
Emanu-El, the only civilian
Jewish congregation in Hawaii,
was in Hollywood when she
was made queen for the day on
the American Broadcasting
Company's show of that name.
Asked to pick "her king," Mrs.
Green phoned Chaplain Good-
man_ When he answered the
phone and heard a voice from
across the Pacific ask how he'd

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Israel in-
dustries received their first
order from Burma for irrigation
equipment. The order, amount-
ing to $150,000 was mainly for
light alloy pipes and fittings.
The order was placed after
the Burmese authorities ac-
cepted irrigation plans prepared
by an Israel expert in prefer-
ence to proposals by German
and Austrian irrigation engi-
neers. The plan accepted by the

like to be king for a day, he
thought it was a joke, and said
"I'd love it." Then the voice
replied, "You're it."
As his royal reward he got
two air-conditioning units which
were shipped to him in a hurry
and have now been installed in
the chapel, two converted quon-
set huts on Kamehameha High-
way.

Plan Shalom Statue
on Height of Carmel

NEW YORK, (AJP) — Mrs.
Belle Thalia Gerald of Los An-
geles left on the S.S. Israel
with a blueprint for the erec-
tion of a "Statue of Liberty"—
Statue Shalom—on the impos-
ing height of Mt. Carmel over-
looking Haifa and the Sea. Mrs.
Gerald, originator of the plan,
has the support of many promi-
nent Americans and Israelis for
her unique project.
Dr. William Lindsay Young,
also of Los Angeles, has writ-
ten the following poem which
will be inscribed on the base
of the statue:
SHALOM
Come wend your way to me all
ye whose hearts
Are broken by the thrusts of
hates and wars.
Come with cares that weight
your weary souls
And take my balm for age-long
gaping sores.
Come glad complete with ar-
mored power of faith
Unshackled from the chains of
guns and swords.
Come with minds full garri-
soned by truth
And clasp a world held firm by
love's strong cords.
Come believing that all men
are one
In sacred dignity and need each
other.
Come in prayerful hope that
all will learn
At last that under God each
man's a brother.
The noble dreams of men
abroad, at home,
Await fulfillment of my plea—
Shalom.
