Nazi-Like Anti-Semitism
Charged to Egypt. at UN

GENEVA, (JTA)—Israel ac-
cused Egypt of instituting an
official campaign of anti- Semit-
ism, persecution and expulsion
of Jews reminiscent of the Nazi
actions against the Jews.
The accusation was made by
Dr. Menahem Kahany, Israeli
representative at the meeting
here of the United Nations Eco-
nomic and Social Council, dur-
ing a discussion of the report of
the UN High Commissioner on
Refugees.
Dr. Kahany declared that
since 1956 "the situation of
Egyptian Jewry has gravely
deteriorated after administra-
tive measures taken by the
Egyptian government against
them and a virulent anti-Semi-
tic campaign conducted against
them—a campaign which' re-
minds us of another which took
place not so long ago on an-
other continent but on the same
pattern and led by the same
people who have found friendly
asylum in Egypt."

NEW YORK (AJP) — A
Reuters dispatch from Moscow
reports that a Mrs. Elmer
McLain of Lima, 0.—one of a
group of 24 American visitors
received in the Kremlin—had
questioned Khrushchev on the
right of Jews to emigrate from
the USSR.
According to the dispatch,
the Soviet leader replied:
"It is true to a certain ex-
tent. We issue passports only
to those whose trip is useful.
Recently we gave Jews pass-
ports for repatriation to Poland.
But we know they went straight
to Israel. We consider Israel as
pursuing an aggressive policy."

Nazi Germany — eligible for
payments of up to $1,200 each
under a law passed last year
-by the West German Govern-

it was revealed today.
Two leaders in the field of

assistance of their agencies to
the refugees, many of whom
may not be aware that they
are entitled to receive the pay-
ments. Moses A. Leavitt, execu-

Distribution Committee, and
James P. Rice, executive direc-
tor of United Hias Service, of-
fered to help the refugees find
the necessary documents to sup-
port their claims.
Applicants who need help in
documenting their claims should

U.S. May Back Malik for General Assembly Post

WASHINGTON, (JTA)—The
United States may support the
candidacy of Foreign Minister
Charles Malik of Lebanon for
the presidency of the United
Nations General Assembly when
the assembly meets in Septem-
ber.
The question of backing Malik
is being weighed here with a
view to advancing the American
position in the Arab world with
the Afro-Asian bloc. Lebanon
has moved toward the United
States since the Suez Crisis
and has adhered to the Eisen-
hower Doctrine.
Sir Leslie Munro, Ambassa-
dor of New Zealand, had pre-

' viously announced his candidacy
for the General Assembly pres-
idency. He is favored by Israel.
