"Posters U. S. A.," an exhibi-
tion of over 70 American post-
ers—ranging from the earliest
in American to modern out-
door advertisements — opened
its nation-wide tour Wednes-
day at the Detroit Historical
Museum.
The opening of this exhibi-
tion, which marks Detroit's
256th Birthday, continues the
Museum's custom of scheduling
an important event or exhibi-
tion on the anniversary of the
founding of the City. Planned
in cooperation with American
Heritage, the Magazine of His-
tory, and the American Feder-
ation of Arts, "Posters U. S. A."
will travel to approximately 20
cities throughout the United
States following the Detroit
showing.
All the posters to be exhib-
ited were selected by the edi-
tors of American Heritage from
the Levi Berman - collection
Berman spent over 30 years
assembling more than _ 5,000
posters. Some were purchased
from other collectors, others
rescued from attics and barns.
Now the collection is housed in
the third floor loft in an old
building on New York'S Union
Square.
