Bnai Brith District 6 Parley Votes 50,000 Trees in Honor of Klutznick (From JTA and Other Dispatches) CHICAGO—Over 1,200 dele- gates attending the District Six convention of. Bnai Brith here last week unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the planting of 50,000 trees in Israel in honor of the forthcoming 50th birthday of national president Philip M. Klutznick. The resolution, calling for the planting of the trees in the Martyr's Forest in Israel, through the Jewish National Fund, was sponsored by the Detroit • delegation. The Detroit Council pledged 10,000 trees to the project, and 1,000 were pledged by Pisgah Lodge in honor of its centen- nial celebration later this year. Alfred H. Bounin and Jack Caminker, of Detroit, were elected to the District Six board of governors. Klutznick, who addressed the closing banquet, disputed his torians who foresee a withering of Jewish life in the next 50 years brought on by suburbani- z4ion and freedom from "ghet- to pressures." He found "no cause for fear" that Jews, having achieved a high measure of security, would abandon their ties to Judaism. He also questioned the belief that •'a crisis atmosphere" is needed to give the Jewish com- munity its unifying force. However, he added "the cal- amity of crisis will remain with the Jewish community" so long as more than 2,000,000 Jews are enslaved by Soviet Russia." Myrna Katz to Wed Melvyn K. Adelman Jewish Center to Sponsor To Wed Sept. 10 The great challenge to Ameri- can Jewry today, the Bnai Brith president said, "is to 'restore to the family unit the role it has abdicated in transmitting Jew- ish traditions and culture to its youth. We are in an age of too much reliance on public and private agencies, not enough on the family," he stated. , The convention surprised him with a $50,000 check—"a thous- and dollars for each year of a committed to Jewish ideals" -:-.presented by Chicago friends and made payable toward the construction of the Bnai Brith building in Washington, D.C., that will be dedicated this winter. * * * CARD OF THANKS The family of the late Mari- lyn Miller acknowledges with Two social events for young grateful appreciation the many adults have been planned for kind expressions of sympathy this month by the Jewish Corn- extended by relatives and friends during the family's re- munity Center. cent bereavement.
