Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hecht-
man, of 3440 Sherbourne, an-
nounce the engagement of their -
daughter, Rhoda Beth, to Robert
Lawrence Siegel, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Daniel C. Siegel, of 18655
Fairfield.
The bride-elect attended the
University of Michigan. Her-
fiance -is a U. of M. graduate,
and was affiliated with Sigma
Alpha Mu fraternity.
The couple is planning a No-
vember wedding.

Center Announces
Plans for Literary
Poster Contests

Advance announcement is
made by the Jewish Community
Center of the sixth annual Jew-
ish Book Fair poster and liter-
ary contests. The 1957 Fair will
be held Nov. 23' to 25, at the -
Davison branch.
Both contests open Sept. 9
and close Oct. 25.
Eligible for the poster con-
test are Jewish boys and girls
within these age grtups (1)
elementary: under 10 years; (2.)
intermediate: 11 through 14
years; and (3) advanced: 15
through 18 years. Posters may
be on any subject consistent
with Jewish Book Fair.
Prizes, provided by the Della
Imerman Meyers M e m o r i a 1
Fund, will be awarded in each
age category for first place, sec-
ond place and five third places.
The literary contest is open
to Jewish youths, ages 11
through 14 (intermediate) and
ages 15 through 18 years. En-
tries must deal with or be in-
spired by a book of Jewish in-
terest by a Jewish author.
•Contest rules may be obtained
from any Jewish school or syna-
gogue or by writing or phon-

Bon Voyage Party
Fetes Arthur Schwartz

A sumptuous cocktail party,
Complete with garden and can-
dlelight setting, was given
Thursday evening by friends of
Arthur Schwartz, of 24021 Mo-
ritz, Oak Park, prior to his de-
parture for a six-week trip to
Europe.
Nearly 75 friends gathered in
the beautifully decored garden
of his home to wish him bon
voyage and to sample delicacies
from many parts of the • world,
Mostly from the countries he
will visit.
Schwartz, the proprietor of
Arthur's Studios of Interior
Decorating and Arthur's Bou-
tique, on Livernois Ave., will
leave by air Saturday morning
on a combination business and
pleasure trip.
Among the countries he will
visit are Spain, - Italy, France,
England, Majorca and England.
He will be seeking out rare
utilitarian and luxury items for
his shop from all of the coun-
tries he tours.
Schwartz is expected to re-
turn home about the end of

August.

fund-raising vice-president. Mrs.

president of the Sisterhood
bowling league, announces that
bowling will resume at 1 p.m.,

The annual picnic of the
BETH ITZCHOCK SISTER-
HOOD will be 'held this Sun-
day, at Chandler Park. Those
attending may bring picnic bas-
kets on their own or may ob-

In the event of rain, the pic-
nic will be postponed until
July 21.

phasized the organization's goal
of supporting the Detroit Asso-
ciation for Mentally Retarded
Children.

A weekend at Farband Camp
with Mordecai Strigler, editor
of .the Yiddisher Kemfer, is
planned for members of the
Farband Labor Zionist move-
ment.
The weekend, to be held July
26 to 29, will feature presenta-
tions by campers, an oneg shab-
bat, m'laveh malkeh, sports and
recreational programs.
The cost of the weekend's
activities will include hotel ac-
commodations and three meals

David Henry Sniderman, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Max S. Snider-
man, of 548 St. Clements Ave.,
Forest Hill, near Toronto, was
one of 500 whd were auditioned
for a role in the Stratford play.
He beat them all—thanks to
previous experiences which en-
abled him to make "Hamlet"
the 69th play of his participa-
tion.
He has minor roles in "Ham-
let"—as the 4th player, the 4th
Fortinbras Soldier and one of
Rabble; but it gives him new
status, and he now would like
to pursue his studies in Shakes-
peare and do more work in
Shakespearean drama.
David is a ninth grade stu-
dent. He has participated in TV
and stage plays and had a role
in the short-lived Ronert Ander-
son Broadway production, "All
Summer Long."
He has the distinction of be-
ing the first Canadian member
of the Actors' Equity Guild. He
has had roles in the Toronto
Crest theater and in other pro-
ductions.

Ike Re-Nominates
Customs Collector

Frank Abelman, collector of
customs in Detroit since 1953,
has been re-nominated by Presi-
dent Eisenhower for another
four-year term.
Born in Bessemer, Mich.,
Abelman served as manager of
the Michigan Department of
Revenue Upper Peninsula di-
vision before assuming his
present post.
Abelman was a business ad-
ministration student at the Uni-
versity of Michigan. He is mar-
ried and the father of a son,
Daniel, 16. The family lives at
17406 Philomene, Allen Park.
