Synagogue Painted—But
Donor Is Anonymous
SAN FRANCISCO, (JTA) —
Temple Kneseth Israel has a
sparkling new coat of blue and
white paint because congrega-
tion officials agreed to accept a
contribution for that purpose
with the condition that the
donor be anonymous.
The anonymous benefactor
asked a painter to meet with
the synagogue executive board
shortly before Passover. The
painter did so, informing the
synagogue officials that "a
friend" of the congregation was
prepared to pay the painting fee
with "only one condition—the
job will not be done if you in-
sist that he disclose his iden-
tity."

In another statement, the

to Egyptian Jewish refugees.
We call for passage of the bill
introduced by Senators Clifford

Egyptian Jewish refugees. Pend-
ing that passage we appeal to
President Eisenhower to use the
emergency par ole powers
granted to him by Congress."
Declaring that "the principle
of separation of church and
state is being challenged on a
broad front in our national

reaffirmed its support of "both
the spirit and the letter" of
separation of church and state
as stated in the First Amend-
