First Detroit-Israel Shipping Link
Marked by Arrival of Askholm

A historic first, linking ship-
- ping between Detroit and Is-
rael, was marked last week-end
when the Norwegian ship Ask-
holm docked at Detroit's H•r-
bor Terminal at the foot of
Clark Ave.
The ship, en route from Chi-
cago and Milwaukee, took on a
cargo of steel, automobiles and
plastics.
The historic voyage con-
firmed establishment of a di-
rect steamship freight service
from this port to Tel Aviv ancl
Haifa. The J. F. O'Brien CO.,
Majestic Building, is the De-
troit agent for the project.
The Askholm, chartered by
the new Israel American lines,
will call at ports of Piraeus,
Greece, and Iskenderon, Tur-
key.
According to the local agent,
the Israel American lines will
conduct monthly service to De-
troit. The next ship is expected
to arrive here at the end of July.
"We are hoping to build up
the Israel-Detroit steamship
service," J. F. O'Brien has
