Plotnick Egyptian Jews GREENFIELD PARK, N.Y., (JTA)—The 45th annual con- vention of the National Council of Young_ Israel called upon the United States Government to grant 5,000 emergency visas to Jews who fled Nasser's- tyran- ny." Dr. Samuel Z. Kahane, who will be in Detroit this week- end, told the delegates that "Israel's religious denomina- tions enjoy complete freedom of religion.- The Arabs and Christians of Israel are ac- corded every opportunity by the government to practice their religious rituals and rites." Moses Hoenig, president of the movement, reported a "mass resurgence of religious observ- ance in all parts of the country." Young Israel, he said, "is forg- ing a harmonious link between the basic postulates of Ortho- doxy and practices of our secu- lar way of life." Some 15.000 young boys and girls are involved in youth ac.7. tivities sponsored by 350 Young Israel clubs, he said. About 20,000 young people are receiv- ing religious training. in Young Israel afternoon classes while 50,000 adults attend adult edu- cation classes "under the guid- ance of America's – foremost religious leaders and thinkers." Hoenig appealed to the Amer- ican Jewish community "to heed the call of the Chief Rabbi of Israel to participate in a mass religious pilgrimage to Israel on . the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the state in 1958." Another convention resolu- tion ,called an President Eisen- hower to effectuate a round- table peace conference be- tween Israeli and Arab leaders in Washington. The resolution stated that the Eisenhower Doctrine would be ineffective without the resumption of peaceful relations between Is- rael and her Arab neighbors. The conference, which began on June 16, was held at Fresh Air Camp, Brighton, Mich. Morton Plotnick was elected president, and Sharon Fox and Dorothy Robinson were voted into office as secretaries. The Windsor girl is Marilyn Miller, who was elected programming vice-president. Other officers elected at the convention which, was attended by the entire staff of the Young Adult Region, were from Chi- cago and Los Angeles. Among the speakers who ad- dressed the delegates were Dr. Richard C. Hertz, of Temple Beth El; Louis Hochberg, di- rector of the Leo N.
