GREENFIELD PARK, N.Y.,
(JTA)—The 45th annual con-
vention of the National Council
of Young_ Israel called upon the
United States Government to
grant 5,000 emergency visas to
Jews who fled Nasser's- tyran-
ny."
Dr. Samuel Z. Kahane, who
will be in Detroit this week-
end, told the delegates that
"Israel's religious denomina-
tions enjoy complete freedom
of religion.- The Arabs and
Christians of Israel are ac-
corded every opportunity by
the government to practice
their religious rituals and rites."
Moses Hoenig, president of
the movement, reported a "mass
resurgence of religious observ-
ance in all parts of the country."
Young Israel, he said, "is forg-
ing a harmonious link between
the basic postulates of Ortho-
doxy and practices of our secu-
lar way of life."
Some 15.000 young boys and
girls are involved in youth ac.7.
tivities sponsored by 350 Young
Israel clubs, he said. About
20,000 young people are receiv-
ing religious training. in Young
Israel afternoon classes while
50,000 adults attend adult edu-
cation classes "under the guid-
ance of America's – foremost
religious leaders and thinkers."
Hoenig appealed to the Amer-
ican Jewish community "to heed
the call of the Chief Rabbi of
Israel to participate in a mass
religious pilgrimage to Israel
on . the occasion of the tenth
anniversary of the founding of
the state in 1958."
Another convention resolu-
tion ,called an President Eisen-
hower to effectuate a round-
table peace conference be-
tween Israeli and Arab leaders
in Washington. The resolution
stated that the Eisenhower
Doctrine would be ineffective
without the resumption of
peaceful relations between Is-
rael and her Arab neighbors.
