Five Jewish Colleges
Share Ford Funds
Five Jewish institutions were
among 630 privately-supported
colleges and universities in the
United States to receive checks
this week from the Ford Foun-
dation as the final payment un-
der its program to help raise
faculty salaries.
Two Massachusetts institu-
tions to receive funds were
Brandeis University, at Wal-
tham, which was given $265,500
for a total grant of $530,500, and
Hebrew Teachers College, in
Brookline, which received $19,
000 and a total of $39,000.
In addition, Brandeis was
awarded a plus "Accomplish-
ment Grant" amounting to
$184,000 and a total of $329,000.
New York's Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary was given the sec-
ond half of its grant of $110,000,
amounting to $55,000, and Ye-
shiva University, also in New
York, received a check for
$205,000 as the second payment
of its grant of $405,000.
The only other Jewish educa-
tional institution to receive
Ford Foundation funds was
Philadelphia's Dropsie College,
which was awarded $29,500 as
the second payment of its total
grant of $69,500.
Each of the institutions was
granted a sum approximating
its undergraduate instructional
costs for the 1954-55 academic
year. Initial payments were
made in July, 19-56.
