Marcos Satanovsky, eminent scholar active in Jewish affairs, was slain" by a group of three assassins who succeeded in escaping. He was buried at the Jewish cemetery here while police were still hunting the killers. Dr. Satanovsky, who was a professor of law at the univer- sity here, was 64 years old and the author of a number of books. According to the police ac- count, he was visited in his office by the three unknown murderers on the pretext of getting autographs on one of his books. Members of °Dr. Satanovsky's staff suddenly heard on the intercom system.a cry of ter- ror and the sound of two shots. The three men then ran out of the study, waving pistols at the staff, and escaped. One staff member was fired at but not hit. At the funeral services, which were attended by a large num- 1 •er of university professors and leaders of all Jewish organiza- tions, Dr. Satanovsky was eulo- gized for his contributions to Buenos Aires University and to various causes in Israel. TEL AVIV (JTA)—An Israeli water engineer was murdered by Syrians who opened fire on him while he was -working on Israeli soil. The incident oc- curred south of Mishmar Hay- arden. The engineer was work- ing near the Jordan River at a point south of where it emerges from Lake Huleh. He was shot at from Syrian troop positions and hit. Earlier, a settler at Kibbutz Gadott, on the southern edge of Lake Huleh, was wounded when the tractor he was driv- ing hit a landmine placed in the field. The settlement is lo- cated near the Syrian border. Knesset Deputy Speaker, Haim Ariav, Dies at 62 Haim TEL AVIV (JTA) Arias', General Zionist leader and Deputy Speaker of the Israel Government, died here June 17. He was 62. Born in Poland, Mr. Ariav settled in Palestine in 1912 and served in the Turkish Army in World War I. Later he served with the World Zionist execu- tive and the Jewish Agency. He was a founder of the daily newspaper Haboker and of the Farmers Loan Bank of Israel. He also served on educational and farm groups, including service as general director of the Israel Farmers Federation.
