The award citation of Wayne
State University, giving Leon-
ard N. Simons the honorary
degree of Doctor of Laws, read
as follows:
"Leonard . Norman Simons, a
native of Ohio but a lifelong
resident of this community, has
been a Visiting Lecturer at the
New York University School of
Business Ad-ministration and
Fellow of Brandeis University;
he has been Partner in the
Simons-Michelson C om pa n y
since 19-29.
t`To enumerate the good
works in which he-has both led
and served is to list most of the
social agencies, many govern-
mental finance boards, and sev-
eral colleges in this community
and nation. 'Few men have so
nobly demonstrated their sense
of stewardship for their time,
talent, and possessions.
"His interest in and service
to the cultural life of this com-
•unity is illustrated in his
longstanding membership in the
Detroit Historical Society and
Board, in his appointment to
the Detroit Historical Commis-
sion, in the distinguished Simons
Collection of Local History
which he presented to the
Wayne State University Library
and in his assistance to the
University Press.
"When so many vie to do a
great citizen honor in his own
time and place, it is a privi-
lege to be one of his com-
patriots. This University which
has been the recipient of his
affection and concern is thus
the spokesman for the com-
munity as it seeks to express to
him its respect and grateful
appreciation."

Check Faucets for Hot Water
Waste, Edison Mgr. Warns
The handy man around the
house can chalk up big savings
by making little repairs. Stop-
ping a "little drip" in a hot wa-
ter faucet, for instance, can
save many gallons in a short
time.
First make sure the family is
in the habit of shutting off the
faucet completely. If the faucet
still leaks, shut off the water at
the pipe valve, remove the fau-
cet handle and old washer and
feel the washer seat. If there
are no rough edges, simple re-
placement of a washer probably
will cure the trouble. Any
handyman can do this, but he
should be sure to use a high
quality washer, one made of
good rubber or good rubber and
cord.
If rough edges are found in
the washer seat, it has probably
been damaged and it is better
to get professional help.
Saving one drop a second can
add up to 210 gallons of hot wa-
ter saved in a month, according
to H. R. Stevenson, Detroit Edi-
son manager of sales. This
means saving not only on the
cost of water but saving on the
cost of water heating.

Benny Friedman:
Hero Out of Past

By HAROLD U._RIBALOW

Israel Judge Okays
'Noisy Card Games'

TEL AVIV (JTA)-A ruling
by a local magistrate that
"there is no lawful limit to the
amount of noise a person may
make on his own balcony" put
a crimp in local effortS to make
boisterous Tel Aviv a little
quieter.
1\fagistrate I. Zohar issued
that opinion in acquitting
Eilahu Migdal of disturbing the
peace at a noisy game of cards
on the balcony of his home be-
tween 10:30 a.nd 11 p.m.
The Judge, noting there was
no law against such noise, said
it was common to make noise
without considering the feel-
ings of neighbors.

is a long, detailed account of
Benny's career both as a quar-
