OMAHA, (AJP) — Speaking
at the recent annual conven-
tion of Te Deum Internationals
—which has as its purpose the
education of adults in the prin-
ciples of Catholic action — the
well - known Catholic writer
Richard Pattee told the 2,000
delegates that "the main Middle
Eastern problem is not so much
whether the Israelis are admir-
able or deplorable. It is," he
said, "the fact that they are oc-
cupying a particular piece of
real estate, , the occupancy of
which is very aggravating to
neighboring nations."
Pattee added that the Arab
world is disquieted because the
Israeli nation exists not only to
care for the Jews already there,
but also to serve as a focal point
of world Jewry and the centers
of a revived Judaism. The ex-
pansion that would be required
for such a population increase,
he charged, is what has the
Arabs, Egypt, Jordan and Syria
on edge.
Other speakers at the conven-
tion, citing several encyclicals
of the Pope, demanded that 'Is-
rael accept the 1947 UN parti-
tion plan which called for the
internationalization of Jerusa-
lem.

LONDON, (JTA)—The Brit-
ish Government has revoked
restrictions on commercial cred-
its to Israel importers, opening
the possibility of large-scale ex-
ports to Israel from this coun-
try. Trading on a cash basis,
which increased during the first
three months of 1957 as com-
pared with the previous year,
has never been restricted. But
credit deals between British
firms and Israel importers have
been suspended since Israel en-
gaged in the Sinai campaign
last fall.
A spokesman for the govern-
ment's Export Credits Guaran-
tee Department told the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency: "We con-
firm that, in addition to our
cover - on - letter - of - credit busi-
ness with Israel, which has been
maintained throughout the re-
cent Middle East disturbance,
the Department is now prepared
to cover business on appropri-
ate credit terms." Each trans-
action, it is understood, will be
dealt with on its own merits,
but it is believe& that the new
credit guarantees will facilitate
such large-scale Israeli pur-
chases as the pending deal for
four Briston Brittania turbo
prop aircraft, which will cost a

total of about four million
pounds sterling (approximately
$11,600,000).
