Spanish Film Uses
Star of David as
Symbol of Devil

NEW YORK (JTA)—Spanish

film-makers equate the devil
with the symbol for Jew. That
was reported here in the latest
issue of the show business trade
paper, "Variety." According to
"Variety," the Spanish movie
`Taustina," shown recently at
the Cannes Film Festival in
France, uses the Star of David
as the symbol for identifying,
the devil and his cohorts.

Ai Committee Challenges
Government on Exemptions
For Religious Groups
The American Jewish Com-
mittee today challenged the
government's right to deprive
religious groups of tax exemp-
tion benefits by the use of a
narrow definition of religion.
The Committee asserted that
the government does not have
the constitutional right to "pick
and choose" among bona fide
religious groups in order "to
determine which are and which
are not entitled to tax - exemp-
tion benefits." This viewpoint
was • expressed in an amicus
curiae brief filed by the Com-
mittee in behalf of the Wash-
ington Ethical Society, Wash-
ington, D. C., which had been
assessed for real estate taxes

against its property.
