NEW YORK (JTA) — The
American Council for Judaism
urged the United States Gov-
ernment to take m e a s u r es
which would end special privi-
leges for American Jews in re-
lation to Israel and special dis-
abilities in relation to the Arab
states. The statement will be
submitted by Council president
Clarence L. Coleman, Jr., to
the federation's convention
later this month. The Council
expressed the hope the United
States would:
1. Repudiate "the Israeli-
Zionist definition of all Jews
as possessing a 'Jewish' na-
tionality regardless of their ac-
tual citizenship." 2. Urge the
Israeli Government to "liqui-
date the Zionist mechanism (the
Jewish Agency-World Zionist
Organization) which it operates,
in its own behalf, among Amer-
ican citizens." 3. Urge the Is-
raeli Government to repeal its
"Law of Return" and its "Na-
tionality Law."
4. "Insist that the so-called
`Arab states' honor the Amer-
ican passports of American cit-
izens of the Jewish faith in the
same manner as the passports
of American citizens of other
faiths are honored." Also, "ex-
plain to the government of
Saudi Arabia that the individ-
ual religious preferences of
United States citizens who are
members of the armed forces
are a matter into which the
United States Government may
not on principle inquire and
that it can no longer make as-
s•gnments of such armed forces
personnel to Saudi Arabia, or
anywhere else, on such a basis."
