Elect John Hopp Beth El President JOHN C. HOPP John C. Hopp was elected president of Temple Beth El at the 107th annual meeting last week. Hopp has been a life-long member of the temple, and was confirmed in the religious school by the late Dr. Leo M. Frank- lin in 1907. His election to the highest of- fice in the congregation coin- cided, therefore, with the 50th anniversary of his confirmation at the temple. He served for many years as chairman of the ways and means committee and the properties committee and for the past two years as vice- president of the temple. Other officers elected were Philip R. Marcuse, vice-presi- dent, and Leonard T. Lewis, Treasurer. The following were elected to the board of trustees: Louis A. Baum, Sidney J. Karbel, Mau- rice Klein, Sydney Sarasohn and Dr. Max- B. Winslow. In his annual report to the congregation, Benjamin Wilk, retiring president, reported that Temple Beth El now numbers 1,748 families, the largest in its history, and an enrollment of 1,250 children in the religious school. Temple Beth El is among the four largest Reform Jewish con- gregations in the country. Brandeis Camp Institute Is a Pro-Zionist Agency Judy Ann Jacobs' "Michigan Musings" column in last week's Jewish News contained a re- grettable error. It referred to the Brandeis Camp Institute, at Santa Susana, Calif., as a non- Zionist camp. This is incorrect. The Brandeis Camp, by its very name, is pro- Zionist. It has a strong Zionist and Israeli atmosphere and in- fluence and should be so re- garded. We regret the error. SUDDENLY IT'S 1960 Don't Read This Ad— Don't Buy A Car . Until you get my deal.
