Piped-in classical music ac-
companied Sherry Kotzer, lei-
surely swimming in the Cali- -
fornia desert pool. The time
was summer, 1956, and the
place; Brandeis Camp Institute
of Santa Susana, Calif. (35
miles from Los Angeles). Sher-
ry, who's completing her fresh-
man year at U. of M., spent
four delightful- weeks there as
the first Detroiter to attend.
Sponsored by the Brandeis
Youth Foundation; the non-
Zionist camp is open to high
school graduates, who may at-
tend a four-week session, either
June 23-July 21; or July 28-
Aug. 25.
Sherry's roommate, Marcia
Nelson, also a second semester
freshman, will attend this sum-
mer.
Camp applications can be ob-
tained by writing the Director
of Admissions, Brandeis Youth
Foundation, Sant a Susana,
Calif.
Pi Lambda Phi captured the -
I-M Social Fraternity bowling
title. Highest scorer was Mort
Friedman, followed by Gerry
Wolberg, Stan Zax, Dick Lew-
iston and Gary Bergman.
George Finkel of Ann Arbor
emerged a policeman in the
Speech Department's produc-
tion of Lady Gregory's "Ris-
ing of the Moon."
Ann Arborite Gloria Green
is a contestant for senior class
commencement speaker.
Julie Michel, a junior, and
seniors Mabel Kaufman and
Stephanie Fenster of Ann Ar-
bor were initiated into Pi
Lambda Theta, Women's edu-
cation honorary.
Bert Bez received the
Charles H. Stocking Award in
Pharmacy; Richard M. Fish-
beck of Birmingham received
the Payne Award for master's
degree candidates in education.
Charles Morton of Ann Arbor
won first prize of $400 in the
engineering college's C o o 1 e y
Essay Contest. Marian Ellias of
Trenton received a Sigma Delta
Chi journalism scholarship rec-
ognition award.

Hebrew U.-Hadassah School
Marks Eighth Anniversary
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — The
eighth anniversary of Hebrew
University - Hadassah Medical
School was marked here with
the dedication of the David and
Penina Pearl Golomb lecture
hall, constructed with funds
donated by Mrs. Rosa Statnigros
in honor of her parents. Crea-
- tion of a student loan fund was
announced at the exercises.

While walking through Cen-
tral's corridors last Thursday,
'Lites were stopped by students
carrying large posters and plas-
tered with badges of all types.
Sure enough, the 12B elections
had rolled around again.
On Friday morning, the 12Bs
were introduced to the candi-
dates, and voting followed.
Coming our victorious were
John Fried, president; Sylvia
Wolfe, veep; Diane Couyoum-
jian, secretary; and Tobi Fallen,
treasurer.
Winning managers were
Larry Green, Ronny Stewart,
Arnold Berlin and Leonard
Zucker. To celebrate the vic-
tory, "a party was held at the
home of the new president.
As graduation draws nearer,
honor guards for the BIG day
which is June 19, were selected.
Barbara Ehrlich, Martha Rubin-
stein, Sim Stovack, and Sharon
Owens were the lucky 12B's
chosen.
CHS honored Memorial Day
in a program presented Tues-
day and Wednesday by the so-
cial science dept. under the di-
rection of Verne Rogers, depart-
ment head. Chairman of the
assembly was Mike Kahn.
Among those participating were
Anthony Campbell, Miriam
Grundstein, Sam Bernstein, Jack
Kane, Benita Ober, Victoria
Johnson and Sim Stovack.
At a recent 12A meeting, sen-
iors voted for class motto and
colors. Royal blue and white
were chosen to represent the
colors, and "Today we follow.
Tomorrow we lead," is the class
motto.
In answer to many requests, a
12A party was held at the home
Of Sanford Wallok in Oak Park
last weekend.
Medals will be awarded to
five Latin students who have
distinguished themselves by
getting all A's in the language
for eight consecutive semesters.-
Honored are Marshall Berman,
Anna Malafouris, Mike Cowan,
Abby Rabinowitz and Max
Jacobs.
An award to a senior boy and
girl in each of Detroit's High
Schools and Parochial schools
presented jointly by the Youth
Division of the Chrysler Corp.
and the Detroit Police Dept, has
been presented to. Ira Jaffe and
Diane Sklar in recognition of
their scholastic and citizenship
achievement.

The Drama Club has been re-
hearsing frantically for their
production of Thornton Wilder's
"Our Town," to be presented
June 6. Featured in the cast
will be Bill Goodman, Jon Mar-
will, Emily Freedman, Connie
Lewis, Helaine Moltz and pro-
duction assistant Shelly Good-
man.
Having initiated a new volun-
tary voting method, the Student
Council announced its new offi-
cers to be: President, Mike
Friedman; vice-president, Carol
Lewis; secretary of Senate, Gail
August; secretary of House, Car-
lotta Jones; treasurer, Ira Brisk-
man; board members, Sharon
Bez and Steve Gorelick.
The letter winners of this
year are being honored at a
G.A.A. banquet to be held June
4. The Girls Athletic Associa-
tion has done a great deal to
promote "female athletics" in
the school.
The sports committee, in con-
junction with the swing out
committee of the senior class, is
busy planning a picnic to be
held June 14, after swing out.
It will be the first such an af-
fair to be given by a senior
class.
The dance band and others
are busy planning for their jazz
concert to be presented June 7
in the auditorium. Tickets go
on sale this week and a large
turn-out is expected for this
newly initiated_ effort of the
music department.
