It is always wise to plan in
advance just how you will ar-
range your tables for "serve-
yourself" trays and platters; for
the "sweets" table; for the
"L'Chayyim" tables or tables for
fruit punch. Shevuot is no ex-
ception! Have - the plates to be
used within easy reach of guests.
Place napkins and silver close
together for convenience, and
not too distant from the plates.
If forks will be required for any
of the foods, salad forks are
most adaptable and easy to han-
dle. By all means, see to it that
tables are placed far enough
apart to permit easy access from
all four sides, if square or rec-
tangular tables are used. Try
to direct f‘traffic" from table to
table, starting at the left and
moving right toward the drinks.

choice can be spread over each
slice then roll from two ends
toward the center. Tie with

wiches in aluminum foil for
chilling and, storing in the ref-
rigerator till serving time.
- PLUM BALLS
(Called Schlosser-Buben)
Drain canned plums and re-
move pits. Cover with dry sherry
and let stand 2 hours to mari-
nate well. Drain well and save
the liquid for various uses in
baking. Stuff each pitted plum
with half a walnut, pecan or
filbert. Make pie pastry or use
any desired packaged brand,
and roll the pastry thin. Cut
into rounds with a cookie cut-
ter or thin water tumbler, large
enough: circles to cover the
plums. Place a prepared plum
in center of each pastry round
and bring the edges together,
tucking in the plum.• Place on
a greased baking sheet or cookie
pan; bake 12 minutes at 350° F.
or till nicely browned. While
still warm, dust with confec-
tioners' sugar, sprinkling a little
grated unsweetened Chocolate
on top of each Plum Ball.

QUICK-EASY PIE PASTRY
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
3 /4 teaspoon salt
3 /4 cup vegetable shortening
5 tablespoons ice cold water
A pinch of sugar
Sift together dry ingredients
into a miring bowl. Make a well
in the center and cut in the
shortening with a wire pastry
blender or two knives till the
mixture is reduced to particles
the size of peas. Stir in the wa-
ter till a ball of dough is formed.
Handle as lightly as possible.
Place ball of pastry dough on
a sheet of aluminum foil or
heavy wax paper, wrap tightly
and chill for at least 30 min-
utes. Divide in half and roll out
each half to desired thickness.
Double or triple this recipe, if
required, but remember to form
balls of dough easy to handle
one at' a time • before wrapping
and chilling in the refrigeratdr.
