Detroit Hotel Owner, Isadore Kowal, Dies • Isadore Kowal, Detroit hotel and apartment owner, died in Miami Beach, Sunday, at the' age of 63. Co-owner of the Barlum and full owner of the New Centre Apartments, here, Kowal came to this city about 40 years ago as a penniless immigrant from Russia. From a $1-an-hour job in a sausage factory, he saved enough money to purchase a shoe repair shop. Unable to repair shoes, he hired skilled help. He began three more shoe repair shops here and then started a chain of shops in Canada. He later became owner of the Chateau Frontenac, the Seward, - the Belcrest and Barium Hotels. Four years ago he purchased the Manhattan Towers Hotel in New York.
