On May 2, Ambassador James P. -Richards, special
representative of the President of the United States,
visited Israel to explain the principles and purposes of
American policy for the Middle East as proposed by
President 'Eisenhower and endorsed in • a resolution
. adopted by both _Houses of Congress of the United StateS.
Owing to the shortness of time available, these discussions
between the two governments were concluded in
Washington. <>"

"The government. of Israel
welcomed the support of the
United States for the preserva=
tion of the independence • and
the integrity of Middle Eastern
states and for the development
of economic strength dedicated
to the maintenance of their in-
dependence. -
"In the course of these con-
versations, the government of
Israel reaffirmed its adherence
to the following principles
which, it is confident, also Corri 7
mand, the sympathy, and sup-
port of the United States:"
"1. Israel reaffirms that in the
conduct of its international re-
lations it is guided by the prin-
ciples and purposes of the char-
ter of the 'United Nations to
strengthen universal peace, to
develop friendly relations
among nations, to settle inter-
national disputes by peaceful
means, and to achieve interna-
tional cooperation in the eco-
- nomic, social and humanitarian
sphere.
"2. In conformity with its ob-*
ligations under the charter, it
is opposed to aggression from
any quarter against the terri-
torial integrity and political in-
dependence of any country. It
entertains no aggressive intent
against any other people or na-
-tion anywhere, and is agreed on
the importance of preserving
the political independence and
territorial integrity of the coun-

. High Holy Days, 10% of the
total year's sales and an in-
crease in excess of a million dol-
lars over the previous. year.
Born in Baltimore, Hambur-
ger is a graduate of Johns Hop-
kins University, and the Har-
vard School •of Business. Dur-
ing his college days, he was ac-
tive in Zionist Collegiate circles.
He has visited Israel several
times. He is vice • chairman of
the combined Associated Jewish
Charities and Served first as
president of the Baltimore
