The Concerto was given the first American per- formance two years ago under the direction of Paul Paray with the composer at the piano. Chajes is scheduled to per- form his new Piano Concerto this summer in Geneva, Zurich, Vienna and London. The research attack against cancer is mounting. Tickets may still be bought at the door for this evening's performance. An added attrac- tion is the selling of flowers by members of the Student Coun- cil. A marked change came about 'at Central this week as students and faculty changed places. This is Student Day, a semi- annual affair run by the Stu- dent Council in which the stu- dents take over the school. Michael Kahan, president of Student Council was principal, and Oscar Glieberman, 12A class' president, was assistant principal. Many 'lites attended the Ca- reers Conference last week sponsored by Wayne State Uni- versity which informed students of the opportunities available after graduation from high school. The third annual institute for Jewish High School Seniors, presented by the Jewish Com- munity Council, was held last week. Here, students discussed the problems facing them when graduating from high schools and the opportunities offered in various fields. 12B's held their first meeting recently in Which election plans for senior officers were related., Campaigning for elections will take place Wednesday, and stu- dents will vote Thursday. 10th Reunion Dance Set by Central High Grads The Trailblazer Hop, a 10th reunion dance, is being planned by the graduating class of 1947 from Central High School. Dancing, entertainment, re- freshments and prizes are being planned by the committee, which has been meeting regu- larly to locate all of the class graduates. This has be- come a traditional affair for the classes and the girls not only buy their escort's tickets, but also drive them to the dance and see that they don't get home too late! This will be on May 31 in the school gym, with Jim Schultheis calling. Last Sunday, the Councilettes had their installation tea and the following were installed: Presi- dent, Margie Stein; vice-presi- dent, Barbara Perlman and Joan Glueckman; secretaries, Marilyn Rothschild, Myra Ernstein and Elaine Portner. The organization is planning the spring dance to be held tomorrow night at Bel- Aire Terrace. It is semi-formal, with music by Mel Ball and his orchestra. . Also planning -their dance, "Guys and Dolls," is the Temple Israel Youth Group; their an- nual installation-graduation din- ner dance to be held May 25 at the temple. All members of MSTY are invited. Peter Quint and Gary Gus- sin were two of the eight winners in Detroit of the Na- tional Merit, Scho•arship--a four-year grant to those whose scholastic aptitudes are high enough. The two boys were selected from over 300 who took the test from. Mum- ford and were among 800 winners in the country.
