During the past seven years, there has been a steady growth in the enrollment in the United Hebrew Schools. However, facil- ities and adequate teaching staff are limited. In many cases, par- ents who have registered their children late have been forced to wait a half year or more be- fore being able - to enroll them. Bar Mitzvah regulations of cynagogues require a minimum of four years training in a He- brew school as a prerequisite, and children of 8 and 9 should be enrolled to meet these reg- ulations. Special classes for girls are now being offered in most branches of the United Hebrew Schools, in addition to regular classes open to both boys and girls. Enrollment is also taking place for the Nursery School Branch, on Schaefer and Seven Mile. Enrollment in this branch is limited to 25 children. This Nursery School is accredited by the State of Michigan. Trans- portation to and from school is available. Children 3 to 4 372 are eligible. For information call DI 1-3407. Plans are being made _for a morning nursery class as well as an afternoon class in the Jewish Center Building on Ten Mile Road in Oak Park. For in- formation call LI 8-4747. Registration also is taking place for the Sholem Aleichem School and for the Workmen's Circle School, affiliates of the United Hebrew Schools. Classes for Workmen's Circle will be housed in the Rose Sittig Cohen Building, 13226 Lawton, in Sep- tember. Classes will also be con- ducted in the Mettatal School for residents of the Northwest area. - Branches of the United He- breW Schools are located as fol- lows: - Adas Shalom, 7045 Curtis, UN 4-9210; Beth Aaron, 18000 Wyoming, UN 1-1745; Beth Abraham, 8110 W. Jewish seniors of Cass, Cen- tral, Mumford and Oak Park High Schools gathered in the Youth Hall of Temple Israel, May 8, to learn how the Jewish community is organized and how they might make use of Jewish communal facilities in further- ing their own plans for the fu- ture. Under the overall chair- manship of Hoke Levin, the sen- iors heard outlines of the par- ticipating agencies work by Avern Cohn. Rabbi Max Kapu- stin, Albert Rosen, Morris and Albert Cohen.
