That "there is no competitive
rivalry between Christianity
and Judaism" is one of many
interesting points brought out
in a discussion at a symposium
on the subject "Judaism and
Christianity at the Parting of
the Ways" under the auspices
of Dropsie College for Hebrew
and Cognate Learning, Phila-
delphia.
Among other statements were
that Christianity made the He-
brew Bible a universal book by
accepting it as a part of their
Bible, and by reason of the fact
that they based the claim that
Jesus was the Messiah on the
Hebrew Bible; that Jesus, all
the Apostles and Paul were
Jews; that Christianity is the
child of Judaism and the Church
is the daughter of the Syna-
gogue; that there was nothing
in the message of Jesus which
was responsible for the separa-
tion of Christianity from Juda-
ism.
The main theme of the sympO-
sium was the historical back-
ground of the separation of
Christianity from Judaism. The
discussants were Dr. Morton S.
Enslin, professor of Biblical
Languages and Literature, St.
Lawrence University, Canton,
N.Y.; Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver,
Cleveland; and Dr. Solomon
Zeitlin, professor Of Rabbinic
Literature at Dropsie College.
Bernard G. Segal, former
chancellor of. the Philadelphia
Bar, and a member of the board
of governors of the college, who
presided, welcomed those pres-
ent to "the opening session of
a series of academic conclaves
and meetings in observance of
its 50 years of chartered exis-
tence." He announced that the
program of activities will be

,continued through the month of
May, reaching a climax on Foun-
der's Day, May 22, when Gen-
eral David Sarnoff, chairman
of the board of Radio Corpora-
tion of America, will be the
main speaker at the commence-
ment exercises in the afternoon.
Ambassador Abba Eban and Dr.
Abraham A. Neuman, president
of the college, will be the prin-
cipal speakers at the public din-
ner in the evening.
"In its earliest years Chris-
tianity consisted mostly of
Jews," said Dr. Zeitlin. "If it
were not for the Christians the
Old Testament would have re-
mained the sacred book of a
small body of men. Christianity
and Judaism cannot be united,
but they can and must work
together for the betterment of
humanity."
"The real founder of Chris-
tianity was Paul, who at first
was the persecutor of the Chris-
tians, and then became their
champion," said Dr. Enslin.
Women's Division Hits

"The Women's Division of
the Allied Jewish Campaign has
raised , more money this year
than at any time in its 11 year
history," announced Mrs. Harry
L. Jones, Women's Division
chairman. "More than $600,000
has been raised to date," she
said.
Mrs. I. Jerome Hauser, Wo-
men's tivision general solicita-
tions chairman, announced a
report meeting from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m., Monday, at the Esther
Berman branch of the United
Hebrew Schools.

tains and workers to finish the
excellent job they have done
by soliciting all remaining pro-
spects and bringing in the re-
turns at the report meeting.
