Dinner-Dance to Climax
Young Marrieds Season

The Young Marrieds Group of
Temple Israel will climax its
social season with a Candlelight
Ball, to be held May 18, in the
temple's Leon Fram Hall.
According to Mr. and Mrs.
Stan Millman and Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Rosenberg, co-chairmen,
the evening will begin with a
cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m.,. fol-
lowed by dinner and dancing.
Arrangements have been
Made to have Russ Weaver and
his orchestra provide the mu-
sic, and there will be entertain-
ment provided by comedian
Sammy Shore, popular night
club and television comedian.
Working with the. Millmans
and. the Rosenbergs are Messrs
and Mesdames Paul Kaye, Abel
Selburn and Sandy Gale, decor-
ations; Bernard Goodman and
Jack Pechenik, food arrange-
ments;; Lethe West, telephone;
'Dr. and Mrs:Morris Lipnik and
the Don gchiffs, entertainment;
Sidney Kirman and Arthur Sil-
berblatt, tickets; and I. Dan
Peisner, Moe Traurig and Jack
Pechenik, publicity.

Mrs, Sarah Faber, Avid Charity
Worker, to Mark- 90th Birthday

An unsung humanitarian who
has devoted a lifetime to help-
ing her fellow man will cele-
brate her 90th birthday this
Wednesday.
Despite her advanced age
and handicap of blindness, Mrs.
Sarah Faber, of 18420 Strath-
moor, actively participates in
numerous charity causes in the
community. She is particularly
known for her many years of

work for the Mo'os Hitim, the
Detroit organization whioh pro-
vides needy Jewish families
with necessities for Passover. -
This year Mrs. Faber man-
aged to collect $228 for the or-
ganization:
As her granddaughter, Mrs.
Helen Schneider, of 19133 Ohio,
puts it, Mrs. Faber's "eyes were
closed with blindness 35 years
a.go, but, her heart has always
remained open and her hand
has not been too tired to help
out a friend."
.Besides being a board mein-
ber Of the Mo'os Hitim, Mrs.
Faber is a charter member of
the Ladies Lechem Aneeim and
Cong. Ahavas Achim. She is
active in the Stoliner Society,
League for Religious Labor,
Sisters of Zion Mizrachi and
other charity work. She is
known for maintaining an
especially "soft spot in her
heart" for the orphans in Is-
rael.
Born in • Odessa, Russia ; she
married Samuel Faber in 11885.

United States. Living in Phila-
delphia and Toledo for a short
time, they came to Detroit,
where her husband opened a
Michigan Avenue haberdashery
firm.
Mrs. Faber's six children,
20 grandchildren and 31 great-
• grandchildren will all join
her for a birthday party at
her home.
The five of her children who
live in Detroit are Mrs. Clara
Sachs, Mrs. Anne Zalman, and
Fred, Morris and Isadore Faber.
Dr. Michael Faber is a resident
of Benton Harbor, Mich.
Her grandchildren, in addi-
tion to Mrs. Schneider, are. Mrs.
Ann Kollin, Laura Trosch, Ger-
aldine Litwak, Lillian Clamage,
Joan Minkoff, Shirley Rosen-
berg, Ruth Korby, Judie and
Sandra Zalman, Fred Sachs,
Fred M_arrich, and Arthur,
Marvin, Seymour, Jack, Sam-
uel, Carol, . Deborah and Gary
Faber.
Fred Sachs has followed
his grandmother's example of
helping others by making his
life's work rehabilitating
handicapped people. He is
president-elect of the Michi-
gan Rehabilitation Association.
Mrs. Joan Mifikoff, of Benton
Harbor, will graduate from
Barnard College this June.
Carol Faber, also of Benton
Harbor, is attending North-,
western University. Sam Faber,
of Blackstone Manor, will grad-
uate as a teacher in June. At
the same time Seymour Faber
will receive a masters degree
in philosophy from the Univer-
sity of Michigan. 'A great-
grandson, Arnold Kollin, at-
tends - Wayne State University.

Plans Donor Event

A dinner-dance, the fourth
annual donor event sponsored
by the Mothers Guild of the
Katherine O'Connor School of
Remedial Education, be
held at 7 p.m.,
May 11, in -the
-Coral Room of
the Fort Shelby
Hotel.
Proceeds from
the event will
go toward
the fund for
new permanent
quarters, pur-
chased recent-
ly from Coun-
try Daly School.
The school,
dedicated to
Mrs. Hecker educating and
rehabilitating emotionally han-
dicapped children, will occupy
its new home in Septeniber.
