Lung Cancer Laid
to Tobacco Wax

CHICAGO (AJP)—Dr. Ernest
L. Wynder, addressing a meet-
ing of the American Associa-
tion for Cancer Research, re-
vealed that the waxy coating
on tobacco leaves and stems
was the 'major source' of can-

cer-causing substances in cigar-
ette. The scientist, who is with
the Sloan-Kettering Institute,
said that this coating could
be removed easily by washing
the tobacco leaf and stem in
a variety of solvents. t
