Because of the curtailment of mail deliv-
eries by the U.S. Post Office, there is no assur-
ance that copy mailed to The Jewish News will
arrive on time for the coming issue. We urge
that all copy to be submitted be delivered to
Thejewish News office, 17100 W. 7 Mile, or
mailed special delivery. This is especially
urgent for the issues of April 19 and 26 be-
cause of the earlier deadline necessitated by
the Passover holiday.

Farben, Settles Claim for $7,150,000-
Despite Openly Pro-Nazi Opposition

FRANKFURT, (JTA) — A
$7,150,000 out-of-court settle-
ment with former Auschwitz
camp laborers of the I. G. • Far-
ben Chemical Corporation was
approved by an overwhelming
majority of the company's
shareholders at. a meeting at
which openly pro-Nazi senti-
ments were expressed by the
opposing minority.
The agreement was signed in
February by I. G. Farben's prin-
cipal officers after negotiations
with the Conference on Jew-
ish Material Claims Against
Germany. The vote was 9,000,-
000 for and 700,000 against.

Nazi Rearrested on
Evidence Supplied
by Murdered Israeli

JERUSALEM (JTA)—A for-
mer officer of Hitler's Elite
Guard, who succeeded the no-
torious Hans Eichmann as head
of the Nazis' Jewish bureau
in Budapest and continued de-
portation of Hungarian Jews to
the death camps, has been re-
arrested in Frankfurt, .Ger-
many, on evidence supplied in
part by a- man who was assas-
sinated in Tel Aviv last month.
Word was received here that
the Frankfurt prosecutor had
ordered the arrest of Hermann
Kromay, Eichmann's. successor,
on charges of preparation of
Murder. Kninay was once
cleared by a denazification
court but • the new action
against him followed submis-
sion of testimony by Dr. Israel
Kastner, wartime lea der of
. Hungarian Jewry, who was
slain in Tel Aviv last month.
Dr. Kastner had not com-
pleted submission of all the
evidence he had assembled
against Kromay, it was dis-
closed and it had been thought
that following Dr. Kastner's
death, Kromay would again be
free.
The work was completed,
however, by Joel Brand, who
was a member of the war-time
Jewish; Rescue -Committee in
Hungary. Mr. Brand is now in
Frankfurt assisting the German
authorities.

Jewish survivors of Buna-Mon-
owitz and those other plants
operated by Farben during the
war with manpower supplied
by the SS from inmates of the
nearby death camp.
The next step is legislative
action by the* German Bunde-
stag curtailing the legal period
of grace for filing of claims,
which is expected to take place
before the end- of- April. A total
of '700 stockholders, an extra-
ordinary large number, par-
ticipated in the meeting. All but
two of the opposition speakers
came out flatly against any
payments and the more de-
magogic the statements th e
greater was the applause.
' A special trusteeship corpora-
tion has been set up here by
the Jewish Claims Conference
with E. G. Lowenthal as man-
ager and with branch offices
in New York and Tel Aviv. This
corporation will verify applica-
tions by Auschwitz survivors
and make paymentg. Benefi-
ciaries will be -all Jewish or
former pol;tical concentration
camp victims employed as slave
labor by Farben. Payments are
expected to range from $450 to
$1,200 in accordance with the
period of slave labor . for the
survivor.

B.B.C. Reminds Viewers
of Nazi-Army Link ,

LONDON (JTA) — The Brit-
ish Broadcasting Corporation's
television program gave British
viewers scenes of the new Ger-
man army on parade and later,
on the same channel, by acci-
dent or design, showed scenes
of the Warsaw Ghetto some 12
years ago and the dispatch of
transports to the death camps:
The historical scenes were taken
from a German film made at
the time.
In showing the new German
Army, the BAC correspondent
interviewed one officer who
fought for Hitler in NorWay
and Poland and who expressed
his delight at being back in
uniform. ,
In the later program, the
Ghetto scenes were shown as
background to news clips taken
by a BBC camera team in War-
saw showing construction of
huge blocks of apartments on
the site of the old Ghetto.
There was one glimpse of

will assist and probably other

This was revealed by Levi
Eshkol, Israel Finance Minis-

with both French Government
leaders and private business-
men and financiers. However,
Mr. Eshkol said it was too early
to say whether Israel would go
ahead with a larger pipeline.
He said that any credits Israel
receives from Frailce would be
extended un der "acceptable
conditions."
