and Moscow prisons by former

norance to numerous Swedish
questions about him. Finally,

former Russian prisoner, who
communicated with Wallen-
berg by tapping on adjacent
Moscow prison walls, the Rus-
sians reported his -jail cell
death — a "heart attack"
in July, 194'7. Del Mohr claims
Wallenberg mentioned no
heart trouble and was alive- a
few months after the stated •
date.
, In 1945. Wallenberg was
awarded King Gustav's
Quorum" decoration for human-
itarian work. A Budapest
Jewish Central Hospital pavil-
lion was named after the dip-
lomat. A statue portraying him
as St. George slaying a swas-_
tika-marked dragon has been
removed by the Russians, who
also renamed a street the Hun-
garians created in his honor.
Responsibility for his death
must be placed on the Russian
'government, which in an offi-
cial note to Stockholm, blames
Wallenberg's fate On Viktor S.
Abakumov, former minister for
State Security who was tried
and executed as Beria's accom-
plice in 1954. Col: A. L. Smolt-
sov, chief doctor at Lubyanka
Prison, who requested a post
mortem on Wallenberg's death
("probably as a result of a heart
attack") stated that Abakumov
replied with a cremation order
without the post mortem.
