In Israel, the orange is King.
The lucious, juice-laden, gol-
den orbs, grown in groves along
the coastal plain, bring in more
foreign currency than any other
single Israel export. Last season,
the winter of 1955-56, citrus
(mainly oranges but with a
sprinkling of lemons and grape-
fruit) brought in about $40,000,-
000. Total exports that year
stood at $86,000,000. It is easy
to see vcrhat the orange means
to Israel's economy.
Prospects for this season,
1956-57, are even better than
last year, both as to price and
quantity to be exported.
