Bypassing Egypt's Suez Cana,
a 16,000-ton American tanker
has nevigated the Gulf of
Aqaba and docked at the Is-
raeli port (1) of Elath with a
load -of oil. The cargo will be
pumped to Beersheba (2) and
then transported by rail to a
refinery at Haifa. This was
the first vessel flying the U.S.
flag to arrive at Elath since
the Middle East crisis began.

has already raised $20,000,000 of
the $28,000,000 needed for con-
struction of a 16-inch oil pipe-
line from Elath to Haifa, and
has ordered one of the largest
construction firms in the coun-
try to prepare detailed plans
for early start of construction
