"In a free land like ours,"' he
said, "we have no right to vio-
late our children's rights to
their heritage, and we must pass
it on to them. This is Young
Israel's goal."

"rabbinicide?"
A discussion of this question
appears in the current issue of
"American Judaism," official
publication of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions.
Written by Drs. Nathan H.
Schlafer and Raymond A. Soko-
lov, members of Temple Beth
El, Detroit, Michigan, the arti-
cle, entitled "Are We Killing
Our Rabbis?", deals with the
threat to the health of clergy-
man resulting from the many
duties he assumes. The feature
was suggested by a Life Maga-
zine article about mental break-
downs among ministers.
The authors ask, "When does
he have time to practice what
he preaches about domestic vir-,
tues?" They call for a "job ana:
lysis" as a "first step in
providing the rabbi the kind of
assistance which the fulfillment
of his mission requires."
"American Judaism" is cir-
culated among the members of
the 540 temples affiliated with
the Union, parent body of Amer-
ican Reform Judaism.

The services of Temple Beth
El at 8:30 p.m., today, and 11:15
a.m., Saturday, will be dedicat-
ed to the Young People's So-
ciety of the Temple.

`Passover Operation'
Mapped by JWB for GIs

From U.S. military posts- in
Thule, Greenland, to jungle
stations in Panama, and from
frOzen Iceland to bleak Korea
—and even at posts from Keel-
ung, Taiwan, to Bangkok, Thai-
land, in southeast Asia—Jew-
ish servicemen will participate
in Passover sedorim and holiday
activities to be organized for
the 40th year - as part of the
National Jewish Welfare
Board's global "Operation Pass-
over." Some 150,000 GIs and
hospitalized veterans at sta-
tions on five continents and in
65 overseas lands will hear
Jewish chaplains recite the
story of an ancient liberation
that has so much meaning for
our world today.
Thousands of pounds of matz-
oth and other Passover kosher
foods along with large quanti-
ties of Haggadahs and other
religious articles have been
shipped by JWB for use at mili-
tary seders in Japan, Korea,
Iceland, Alaska, Greenland,
Europe, Africa and the Carib-
bean. JWB is the government-
authorized agency for serving
the religious and morale needs
of Jewish military personnel
and hospitalized veterans.
Four thousand individually-
packaged Passover food boxes
have, in addition, been dis-
patched to servicemen who will
have to go it alone at Passover
at remote overseas stations, for
seder services at sea, on ma-
neuvers, at lonely weather, sta-
tions in the far reaches of the
Arctic — where in some cases
delivery will be by helicopter
and dog-sled.

In a town of 1,000 popula-
tion, according to the American
Cancer Society, four persons
will be under treatment for
DETROIT cancer this year.
