(Honey), to Larry Letofsky, son

of 17338 Woodingham, an-
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Joan Marcia, to Mel-
vin Schwartz, formerly of Mi-
ami, Fla., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Schwartz.
The bride-elect attended the
University of Michigan, and is
now a student at Wayne State
University, ,where she is in spe-
cial .education, working towards
a master's degree in speech
correction. She is affiliated
with Delta Phi Epsilon sorority
and Pi Lambda Theta honorary
society for women in educa-
tion, and is a graduate assis-
tant at the • WSU speech and
hearing clinic.
Her fiance attends WSU,
where he is working toward a
doctorate of philosophy in
speech pathology and vocation-
al rehabilitation. He is associ-
ated with the Sinai Hospital
cleft palate and cleft - lip ha-
bilitation clinic, and is on the
diagnostic team of the Muscu-
lar Dystrophy Clinic at Detroit
Memorial Hospital.
The couple is planning an
Aug. 11 wedding.

Mrs. Gertrude Miller, of 6262
. Outer Dr., who this week
was named "Michigan Mother
of the Year," will go to New
York in May to compete for the
title of National Mother of the
Year.
Mrs. Miller, whose name was
entered in the contest by the
League of. Jewish Women's or-
zations, has been crippled from
an attack of polio since she
was two.

in addition to
caring for her

Her .husband,
I Irving, is office
manager for a
local tool com-
pany. One son,
Sheldon, is a Mrs. Miller
student at Wayne State,Univer-
sity, and the other, Pfc. Gordon,
is stationed in Germany with
the 98th General' Hospital.
Requirements of the competi-
tion state that winners are to be
judged on being a successful
mother (evinced from the char-
acter of her children), an active
member of a religious body and
active in service work.
Mrs. Miller is a member of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, the De-
troit Chapter of Hadassah and
