At a recent family dinner,
t h e engagement of Shirley
Goldstein to Seymour Ekus was
announced by her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Goldstein, of
Washburn Ave. Her fiance is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mor-
ris Ekus, of Tuxedo Ave.
The prospective bridegroom
attends the Detroit Radio, Elec-
tronics and Television School.
A summer wedding is plan-
ned.

for Alpha Omega Event

Sulie• Harand, acclaimed by
music and drama critics in many
communities where she has per-
formed, will be featured enter-
tainer at the annual donor
luncheon of the Detroit Women
of Alpha Omega, to be held at
12:30 p. m.,
April 10, at, the
Fiheraton -Cad-
illac Hotel.
Miss Harand,
whose portray-
als of Broad-
way plays have
been warmly
received in her
several Detroit
appea r ances, Miss Harand
will present "The Life of Irving
Berlin."
Chairmen for the donor are
Mesdames David Daskal, Julius
Barr, Alvin „Lezell and Warren
Schneider.
Proceeds from the luncheon,
the sole fund-raising affair con-
ducted by the organization, go
to the Israeli dental school, for
aid to indigent local dental pa-
tients and to various local chari-
ties.

Workmen's Circle Slates
Parties, Cultural Events

Partying and culture quest-
ing are prominent on the Work-
men's Circle group agendas for
this week-end. •
Branch 460-E will stage a
"welcoming, party" for mem-
bers of Branch 470-E, whose
group will merge with the host-
ing branch, it was announced
by .Maurie Goldsmith, chairman
of 460. The program for the af-
fair, to be held at 9 p. m., to-
day, at the WC center, 11529
Linwood, is being planned by
Frank Newberg, 460's vice-
chairman. Refreshments will be
supervised by Norma Brown-
stein.
At the same time and loca-
tion, branch 156 will hear a
lecture by Don Slaiman, of the
Jewish Labor committee, on
current conditions in Great Bri-
tain. Branch 156 will celebrate
the birthdays of their members
born in March.
The WC Women's Division
will hold a victory dinner at 5
p. m., Sunday, at the center.
The event will honor workers
on a recent. successful donor
luncheon. Friends are invited.

High taxes, the federal budget
and related national issues will
be discussed at 8:30 p. m.,
Wednesday, when Wayne State
University clashes with Univer-
sity of Detroit in a debate spon-
sored by the Detroit Socialites
at Beth Abraham Synagogue,
8100 W. 7 Mile.
The subject of the debate will
be "Resolved: that the United
States should discontinue direct
economic aid to foreign coun-
tries." The affirmative side will
be advanced by U. of D. stu-
dents, while WSU debaters up-
hold the negative. The audience
will participate in a question
period.
The debate will be followed
by dancing and refreshments,
according to Harvey Benenson,
arrangements chairman.
