Mr. Arad was born. in Tel-
Aviv in 1923. He graduated
from high school in 1941 and
a year later joined the British
Army, serving with the Jewish
Brigade in Egypt, Italy and
Western Europe. On cessation
of hostilities, he 'became the
editor .of the Brigade's daily
newspaper, Hachayal, printed
in Hebrew and published in
Brussels.
On release from the Army,
he became managing editor - of
Sefer Hahitnadvut, the story of
Palestine Jewry's participation
in the Allied war effort.
In the summer of 1948, Mr.
Arad joined the . Israel Delega-
tion to the United Nations and
served with it until February
1951. He studied international
relations at the "New School
for Social Research" in New
York, from which he graduated
in 1951.
In NOvember, 1952, he was
appointed chief assistant to the
director of the United States
division of the Israel Ministry
for foreign affairs. He served
in this post until March, 1956,
when he was appointed to his
present position of first secre-
tary of the- EmbaSsy of Israel
in Washington, D. C.
