Charter principles.
Mrs. Meir had directed atten-
tion to the reestablishment of
Egyptian control over the Gaza
Strip. She insisted that it was
contrary to the assumptions and
expectations expressed by her
and others on March 1 at the
United Nations and subs e-
quently. She also expressed
anxiety over reports and state-
ments by Arab leaders indicat-
ing that restrictions on Israel
shipping will be resumed in
the Straits of Tiran and Suez
Canal.
Mrs. Meir, who was accom-
panied by Ambassador Abba S.
Eban, Reuven Shiloah, Minister
Plenipotentiary, and Gideon Ra-
fael, member of Israel's United
Nations delegation, was with
Mr. Dulles for about two hourS.
In a statement to the Senate
Military Committee on Monday,
Dulles said that no promises had
been made to Israel.
Senators Mansfield and
Sparkman, however, asserted
that Israel is justified in her
demands and urged strong ac-
tion by this country for the se-
curity of the Middle East.

ported to be unhappy over the
prospects of a test run of Israeli
ships through Aqaba and the

the new Doctrine. However, Sec-
retary Dulles is reminded that
only a few weeks ago, when he
tried to induce Israel to with-
draw her troops from Gaza, he
said that""there is far greater
realization now than there was

time."

Puts New Pressures for
Concessions by Israel

WASHINGTON, (JTA)—The
Eisenhower Administration be-
gan to apply pressures for new
Israeli concessions almost be-
fore Israel had grasped the
painful f a c t that the United
States had no intention of sup-
porting Israel's understanding of
the "assurances" on which final
withdrawal from Sinai was
made. -
The new pressures were in
the form of proposals that Is-

TEL AVIV--Late reports from
this city indicate that the
freighter Pandora, flying the
flag of Costa Rica, passed
through the Strait of Tiran on
Wednesday.
The vessel, which sailed from
the Israeli port of Elath, was to
be a test of the Saudi Arabian
refusal to recognize Israel's
right to innocent passage in the
Strait. Earlier reports of the
ship's passing were called in-
correct.
Meanwhile, increasing Elath's
daily output from 150 to 500
tons, a crew of stevedores has
been recruited from Haifa to
unload the Da_ -ish freighter Bri-
gita Toft, expected to sail from
Elath on Sunday.
