"The Youth of a Nation are the Trustees of Posterity."—Disraeli • N S By JUDY ANN JACOBS When March 4 rolled around, U. of M.'s six Jewish social fraternities boasted 23 pledges. - Just emerging from a series of open houses, 'smokers', lunch- eons and dinners to join the fraternal ranks are Alpha Epsi- lon Pi's Stewart Teal; and Phi Epsilon Pi's Daniel Buchalter and Glenn Rosin. Jeffrey Kahn, Edward Spil- kin and Richard Vane are now Phi Sigma Deltas. Pi Lambda Phi pledges are Stephen Bloom, Richard Chosid, - Ira Gould, Stuart Handler, Donald Kurtz and Howard Shapiro. New to' Sigma Alpha Mu are Harvey Leach, Paul Lichter, Mark Owens, -Ross Proj an, David Rosenthal and Lawrence Silver. Tau Delta Phi's roster includes Paul Fried, Lawrence Hack, Michael K r a tc h m a n, Michael Weisenfeld' and Marvin Yagoda, , * * * A survey of "Compatible Roommates' in mens and wom- en's dormitories at U. of M. has revealed a distinct lack of racial, nationality and religious inte- gration. Three out of four stu- dents room with someone reli- giously, racially and nationally like themselves. The survey showed that Jew- ish students, in particular, - fre- quently asked for Jewish room- - mates. U. of M. administrators offer two main reasons for their careful approach to integration: 1. A freshman has many emo-, tional strains placed on him and mixed living - might be too much to expect the first semes- ter; 2. The parental influence against mixed living is very strong. A strongly worded editorial by Lee Marks in The Michigan Daily infers it is the univer- sity's moral obligation to en- courage roommate integration as a valuable .means to ending prejudice and discrimination. \ * * * Performing in "A Composers Forum," featuring the original works of four U. of M. graduate students, was pianist Bruce Wise, of Ann Arbor.
