Non-Jew Describes
Visit
isit to Synagogue

Editor, The Jewish News:
I was invited to attend a serv-
ice at the Jewish Synagogue,
which I was pleased to accept
due to my insatiable desire to
learn more about all forms of
worship.
When I entered the synagogue
I could not help but notice the
architectural design and majes-
tic beauty of the tall marble
columns which reminded me of
the ancient temples of Egypt.
The lighting and the entire in-
terior setting impressed me with
the solemnity and reverence in
which the communicants held
God.
I was thrilled by the melody,
the pathos and exquisite beauty
of song that broke upon my ear.
The harmony of the voices rose
and fell in sublime cadences
that seem to come from the soul:
expressing the joy, the sorrows
of Israel's past.
The penetrating tenderness
moved me to tears, that rushed
unbided to my eyes. As I sat
there 'enthralled, lost in thought
I saw the Jews in bondage in
Egypt. I saw the birth of Moses
-the babe hid among the bul-
rushes on the Nile, later adopted
by Pharoah's daughter. The
Babe, who became the deliverer
of his people, the great law giver
-these laws even stand today as
the foundation upon which all
civil law rests.
I followed the picture to the
great King Solomon and his con-
tributions to the world, the con-
quest by the Babylonians, the
sufferings of the JeWs and de-
livvance by their God. At the
end I was conscious of their
struggle to -regain their ancient
home.
I feel sure that the record of
so great a people will inspire
thein and increase their faith in
God, until the victory is won.
I am here reminded of the 118th
Psalms, verses 14 and 15: "The
Lord is my strength and song,
and is become my salvation. The
voice of rejoiCing and _salvation
is in the tabernacles of the right-
eous. The right hand of the Lord
is exalted .. "
